My donation log

Donating to the right place is very important. ‘By telling people you donate, you encourage giving norms, which encourages other people to donate. Imagine if, over the course of my life, I encourage just 1 other person to do the same. I’ll have doubled my impact.

As such, it can be said that it’s “more selfish” to donate and not tell anyone than to donate and tell everyone.’ — Michael Dello-Iacovo

You can have it both ways by giving to efficient charities. http://www.givewell.org/

In We can make massive strides towards a more compassionate world, Matthew Glover, co-founder of Veganuary, explains how there are many ways we can help make the world a better place for all sentient animals. Certainly, donating to effective organisations is not something I consider to be the one and only thing one should be doing — but I think that it is a very important and impactful thing to do.

If you still believe that donating is not particularly important, I urge you to read this page from The Life You Can Save.

So, this here is the place where I will be keeping a log of my donations. It will help me keep track and I hope it will inspire you to 1/ research where you should be donating and 2/ donate. I appreciate that donating time also matters and obviously, I am not expecting people in dire situations to be guilt tripped into donating the money they desperately need. I am a school teacher and I find that I can afford these donations.

See the bottom of the page for further (but realistic) reading recommendations.

NOTE: This starts from December 2016 as my records are too sketchy before that and I want to be thorough. I will update this monthly. Currency = AU$
